Molly, 16, believes there is not a single person, living or dead, who understands her. She has reached the age where all of her friends have grown fond of boys and dating, and she certainly hasn’t. She is, however, very fond of books. Through her love of reading, Molly finds a friend in Amelia, a novelist from the mid-1800s who shares Molly’s sentiments about independence, falling behind, loneliness, and love. Over the following five years, Molly encounters six more authors who help her, and each other, on a journey of queer self-discovery and acceptance. The Book Club is a love letter to authors, readers, lesbianism, and friendship, and a testament to the immense power of being understood, and of language itself. The Book Club was first produced in March 2025 as a part of Post Theatre Company’s 2024-2025 Lab Series. Script and production video available upon request.
